How to deal with a breakups

Breakups are hard, whether the relationship ended amicably or horribly. The hardest part of the breakup is picking up the pieces and starting a fresh. If you recently went through a breakup, you are not alone and with time, you will be able to succeed in letting go.

  • Accept and embrace the feelings

It can feel like a loss when you end a relationship. That is the reason why you need to accept the situation. Bottling up the situation or not acknowledging that the relationship is over will only lead to more problems. You need to embrace what you are feeling. There is no easy way of getting over a person. Yes, you will experience sadness and guilt the first few days. But, as you progress you will be able to overcome it and move on.

You also need to allow yourself time to mourn the end of the relationship. Some people tend to have a rebound relationship to get over the past one. However, this is not a healthy move. You should not jump into any relationship before you are ready to.

  • Don’t dig into it

There are people who will hang on to the relationship because they want answers especially if they were blindsided with the breakup. It is fine to want closure, but digging too deep and staying in the past will not do you any good. What you need to do is let go and focus on the present state.

  • Find a distraction

One of the best ways to distract yourself from thinking about the relationship is joining a class. Joining a fitness class is a great way for getting over the negative thoughts. Exercise is the best stress reliever that you can use. Distracting yourself will help you deal with the negative emotions that are associated with the breakup.

  • Talk about how you are feeling

There are people who have benefited from talking to a therapist. This can work for you if the relationship was a significant part of your life. You will need help accepting the idea of being alone. Talking will give you the chance to express your thoughts and how you are feeling at the moment.

You should not fight your feelings. You will experience a series of conflicting emotions and you need to express them before they make you toxic.
